Scrotal Hematoma CT Findings

  • High-density fluid (50-90 HU)
  • Scrotal wall thickening
  • Displacement and/or compression of the testes
  • Fluid-fluid levels
  • Best evaluated with ultrasound

Other Information About Scrotal Hematoma

Etiology:

  • Trauma
  • Surgery such a vasectomy

Epidemiology:

  • About 1% of vasectomy patients will get a hematoma

Presentation:

  • Scrotal pain
  • Scrotal swelling
  • Discoloration (bruising)

Prognosis:

  • Scrotal hematomas are benign and will resolve on their own
  • Severe cases will require surgical intervention
