Pelvic Hematoma CT Findings

  • High attenuation
  • Heterogeneous
  • “Swirled” or patchy appearance
  • Mass effect
  • Can be extension of abdominal bleed into the pelvis

Other Information About Pelvic Hematoma

Etiology:

  • Trauma
  • Surgery, including hysterectomy
  • Childbirth (both vaginal and cesarean)

Epidemiology:

  • Common

Presentation:

  • Pelvic pain and/or discomfort
  • Palpable mass
  • Skin discoloration

Prognosis:

  • Pelvic hematomas are benign and usually resolve on their own
  • More severe cases may require surgical intervention
