  • Filling defects
  • Enlargement of gonadal vein
  • Most commonly affects the right side

Other Information About Gonadal Vein Thrombosis (GVT)

Etiology:

  • Very highly associated with pregnancy and childbirth
  • Childbirth via Cesarean section increases risk of GVT
  • GVT can rarely present idiopathically

Epidemiology:

  • Very common
  • More common in females (ovarian vein thrombosis)

Presentation:

  • Usually asymptomatic
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever

Prognosis:

  • GVT can be fatal
  • GVT is also associated with other life-threatening complications
  • GVT can be treated with anticoagulation therapy or surgery for severe cases
