  • Outpouching of the bladder wall
  • Can be true (all layers) or false (only mucosa and submucosa)

Etiology:

  • Can be congenital
  • Acquired bladder diverticulum can be caused by blockages or urinary retention

Epidemiology:

  • 9x more common in males

Presentation:

  • Polyuria
  • Dysuria
  • Frequent UTIs
  • Hematuria

Prognosis:

  • Bladder diverticulum does not have to be treated if it is not causing problems
  • Symptoms can be treated
  • Patients may require surgery in severe cases
