Duplex Kidney CT Findings

  • One kidney with two separate renal pelves
  • Extra pelvis can have its own ureter extending to the bladder (complete duplication) or share a “bifed” ureter to the bladder (incomplete duplication)
  • May not be able to visualize renal sinus (“faceless kidney”)
  • Also called “Duplicated Collecting System”

Etiology:

  • Congenital
  • Can be inherited genetically

Epidemiology:

  • More common in females

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Patients may be more prone to UTIs

Prognosis:

  • Duplicated collecting systems are benign
