Genitourinary CT Appearances
Duplex Kidney CT Findings
- One kidney with two separate renal pelves
- Extra pelvis can have its own ureter extending to the bladder (complete duplication) or share a “bifed” ureter to the bladder (incomplete duplication)
- May not be able to visualize renal sinus (“faceless kidney”)
- Also called “Duplicated Collecting System”

Other Information About Duplex Kidney
Etiology:
- Congenital
- Can be inherited genetically
Epidemiology:
- More common in females
Presentation:
- Typically asymptomatic
- Patients may be more prone to UTIs
Prognosis:
- Duplicated collecting systems are benign
