  • Peripheral enhancement
  • Hypodense
  • Multiple fluid-like collections
  • May be best seen on MRI

Other Information About Prostatitis

Etiology:

  • Most commonly caused by bacteria
  • Prostatitis may also have no known cause

Epidemiology:

  • Very common
  • More common in patients with a catheter or frequent UTIs

Presentation:

  • Dysuria
  • Urinary hesitancy
  • Hematuria
  • Pain that affects the abdomen, back, perineum and/or genitals
  • Dyspareunia and/or odynorgasmia

Prognosis:

  • Prostatitis caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics
  • Asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis (not caused by bacteria) does not need treatment
