Pulmonary Artery Hypertension (PAH) CT Findings

  • PA diameter is greater than 29mm
  • Segmental artery to bronchus ratio is greater than 1
  • Ratio of diameter of main PA to that of aorta is greater than 1.2
  • May have mosaic perfusion pattern
  • Reflux of contrast into prominent IVC and hepatic veins

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • May be genetic

Epidemiology:

  • More common in females
  • Typically presents in the 4th-7th decades of life

Presentation:

  • Dyspnea
  • Fatigue
  • Chest pain
  • Palpitations
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Syncope
  • Edema

Prognosis:

  • Poor; patients typically succumb within 2-3 years after diagnosis
