  • Intramural mass
  • Mass is oval or spherical
  • Esophageal wall thickening
  • Low- or iso-attenuating
  • Calcifications possible but rare

Etiology:

  • Unknown

Epidemiology:

  • More common in males
  • Present at a wide range of ages

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Abdominal and/or chest pain
  • Esophageal dysphagia
  • Regurgitation

Prognosis:

  • Leiomyomas are benign
  • Malignant transformation is very rare
