  • Vessel wall thickening
  • Stenosis
  • Microaneurysm formations
  • Can result in bowel ischemia

Other Information About Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) Vasculitis

Etiology:

  • Associated with autoimmune disorders and certain medications
  • Can be idiopathic

Epidemiology:

  • Rare

Presentation:

  • Typically asymptomatic
  • Patients with SMA vasculitis can presents with mesenteric ischemia

Prognosis:

  • SMA should be treated
  • The prognosis depends on the extent of the disease
