  • Coronary artery aneurysm
  • Ectasia
  • Premature atherosclerosis and stenosis

Other Information About Kawasaki Disease

Etiology:

  • Unknown
  • May be caused by a non-contagious infection

Epidemiology:

  • Typically presents before age 5
  • More common in males
  • More common in patients of Asian or Pacific Islander descent

Presentation:

  • Fever
  • Rash on torso
  • Enlarged lymph nodes of the neck
  • Red or pink eyes
  • Dry lips, tongue, and/or throat
  • Swollen and/or red palms and soles of feet
  • Peeling of skin around the fingers and toes
  • Coronary artery aneurysms are not uncommon

Prognosis:

  • Kawasaki disease needs to be treated promptly to prevent cardiac complications
  • Most cases of Kawasaki disease can be treated
