Kawasaki Disease CT Findings
- “Braid” appearance of coronary arteries
- Coronary artery aneurysm
- Ectasia
- Premature atherosclerosis and stenosis
Other Information About Kawasaki Disease
Etiology:
- Unknown
- May be caused by a non-contagious infection
Epidemiology:
- Typically presents before age 5
- More common in males
- More common in patients of Asian or Pacific Islander descent
Presentation:
- Fever
- Rash on torso
- Enlarged lymph nodes of the neck
- Red or pink eyes
- Dry lips, tongue, and/or throat
- Swollen and/or red palms and soles of feet
- Peeling of skin around the fingers and toes
- Coronary artery aneurysms are not uncommon
Prognosis:
- Kawasaki disease needs to be treated promptly to prevent cardiac complications
- Most cases of Kawasaki disease can be treated
