1. The patient has sickle cell disease. Can they get IV contrast?
As long as the patients have normal renal function there is no increased risk for these patients. We do make certain that the patient is well hydrated and the ACR Practice Guidelines suggest that this group of patients will benefit from the use of LOCM (low osmolar constrast media). We use Visipaque-320 in these situations (iso-osmolar agent)
