Aortoesphageal Fistula

Note
75 year old male s/p ascending thoracic aortic graft repair 6 years prior who presented coughing blood. CT revealed an anastomotic leak at the sinotubular ridge and gas in the periaortic hematoma reflecting aortoesophageal fistula. Active bleeding into the esophagus was confirmed at endoscopy. This volume of extraluminal air is more than typically seen with infection and should prompt consideration of a GI fistula.
