As a patient, I would like any radiologic procedure to include several elements:
• selection and appropriate use of the optimal imaging for the clinical issue;
• an accurate reading and analysis of the results by a radiologist, who communicates the results of the reading clearly and promptly to the referring physician, including any recommendations for further imaging or analysis; and
• a clear communication of the results and any recommendations for further imaging, tests, and treatments to the patient in a form that the patient can understand and thus play an active role in all decisions about any next steps.
