The field of imaging AI is advancing rapidly. Every week, there are new developments. With the attention being garnered by large language models (LLMs), sometimes it feels more like every day. But how does the bleeding edge relate to the day-to-day use of AI for us, our clinical colleagues, and our patients? Enter this special issue focusing on practical AI. Our goal in compiling this focus issue was to highlight areas of AI implementation that do not garner regular attention but are critical to deployment of this technology in a way that addresses real-world needs and challenges. Innovation is a product of applied creativity to prior inventions that helped revolutionize technology; however, our blind spots tend to impede advancement.
