I will focus my comments on a serious subject that affects not only the future of institutions such as Johns Hopkins but our nation as well, namely, the ability of our colleges and universities to continue playing their critical role in sustaining the United States as the world’s economic superpower. Research universities such as Johns Hopkins have traditionally produced the innovations, and American higher education institutions more broadly have produced the graduates, that have served to fuel America’s economic strength and vitality.
