Musculoskeletal radiology has, over the past few decades, enjoyed a progressive and productive status as a subspecialty, with imaging examination growth rates from the U.S. Medicare database from 1996 to 2005 of 354% for musculoskeletal magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and of 200% for musculoskeletal ultrasonography (US) (1). Yet within this exciting subspecialty has emerged the new discipline of sports imaging–and it is on fire.
