Welcome to the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology Cross Sectional Imaging Fellowships at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. Applications for fellowships beginning July 1, 2017 will be accepted starting July 2015. We will start interviewing interested candidates in late August/early September 2015. Positions will be offered to suitable candidates on a rolling basis until all thirteen of the positions are filled. Johns Hopkins is a world renowned tertiary and quaternary referral center which has been consistently rated as the number 1 hospital in the country by US News & World Report. The radiology department’s diagnostic division has 3 main locations, all residing at the East Baltimore campus: an inpatient service at the new Johns Hopkins Hospital (Sheikh Zayed Tower) which opened in the spring of 2012, an outpatient service, and a separate oncology department The primary mission of the fellowship is to provide superior clinical training in advanced CT, US and MR imaging of the body. This mission is accomplished by the dedication of faculty members who are deeply committed to resident and fellow education. The fellowships offer an unparalleled educational and clinical experience, thanks to the volume, variety and breadth of pathology seen every day. As a fellow, you will work side by side with nationally and internationally acclaimed academic Radiologists and you will interact with world renowned clinicians. FellowshipsOur department currently offers 4 different 12 months fellowships 1. Cross-sectional Imaging Fellowship. Director: Sheila Sheth, MD Cross sectional fellows will be trained in the comprehensive use and interpretation of the latest imaging techniques, including 3 D imaging and will learn protocol design and development. Fellows will also learn indications and will become proficient in a wide variety of percutaneous interventional procedures. The fellowship is divided into 13 blocks of 4 weeks each: body CT (4 blocks), US (3 blocks), body MR (4 blocks), Biopsy service (1 block), 3DCT/elective (1 block). In addition, one day per week of general diagnostic radiology, plain film and fluoroscopy is built into the rotations. 2. Body MRI Fellowship . Director: Ihab Kamel, MD The dedicated Body MRI fellowship is an intensive 12 month clinical fellowship in Body MRI including musculoskeletal, cardiac, pediatric and chest, abdomen and pelvic MRI studies. In the course of the fellowship, the fellow will learn how to design MRI protocols and will gain experience with new MRI techniques. One dedicated MRI fellow is accepted each year. 3. Dedicated CT Fellowship. Director: Elliot Fishman, MD This is a dedicated 12 month fellowship in Body CT. This includes intensive training in protocols, interpretation, and 3D imaging. This fellowship is ideal for someone interested in academic radiology. 4. Musculoskeletal Fellowship: Director: Laura Fayad, MD The Musculoskeletal Fellowship is a one-year clinical and research program. The fellow participates in an intensive training program in musculoskeletal imaging which includes plain radiographs, CT and MRI of the musculoskeletal system, arthrography and percutaneous bone biopsy. The fellow will be involved in a variety of novel techniques (for example, MR spectroscopy and advanced MDCT protocols for the musculoskeletal system) and be exposed to enormously wide-ranging pathologies. The fellow partakes in weekly sports medicine and musculoskeletal tumor conferences. Education is further advanced by weekly didactic conferences and weekly MRI review conferences. Finally, fellowship training is enhanced by daily interaction with the orthopedic surgical staff and members of the rheumatology division. The faculty is active in a variety of clinical and laboratory research projects in the fields of musculoskeletal CT and MRI, and a variety of evolving techniques for the evaluation of bone and soft tissue tumors. The fellow will have abundant opportunities for research.
Fellow Educational and Research ActivitiesAt Johns Hopkins, there are many educational and multidisciplanary conferences available daily. In addition, a dedicated imaging fellow case conference is held every Friday at noon. The conferences are given by radiology faculty and include both didactic lectures and interesting case conferences. There are no formal research requirements for clinical imaging fellows. However, there are many ongoing projects in the department and fellows are encouraged to participate, if interested. EquipmentCT scannersSheikh Zayed Tower
