Spiral CT angiography has been very successful in the evaluation of thoracic aortic dissection, with a higher sensitivity and specificity in determining the relationship of dissection to arch vessels when compared to multiplanar transesophageal echo and MRI. Advantages over conventional arteriography include a single peripheral injection that can potentially visualize true and false lumen, origin and end of dissection, if proper protocols are followed.
